To Scotchgard or not to Scotchgard, that is the Question!
Actually, you only need to Scotchgard the carpet that you want to keep. Honest! That's not being flippant. You may be planning on replacing your carpet soon, and even though your carpet will resoil quickly, a cleaning may be all you need right now.
But if you do plan to keep your carpet, the short answer is that you ABSOLUTELY need to protect it!
The reasons are many. As foot traffic passes through your home and over your carpet, dust particles drop onto the carpet and soil particles from feet and shoes work their way into the fibers of the carpet and down into the backing. Most of these particles are very fine in nature and normal vacuuming gets most of them, but not those that get into the fibers. Vacuums do not have the ability to catch these particles.
